I have had great success with the patch but I only use one for the whole week and leave it on for at least 3 days after I return home. That way it's slowly wearing off and I don't get the vertigo afterwards. Bonine is a terrific med. Its active ingrediant, Meclizine Hcl, has long been a standard medical treatment for Vertigo, Meniere's Disease and several other inner ear-related problems. For a long time it was only available as a prescription med marketed as Antivert but eventually got approved for OTC use.
DW has taken this med for years with no side effects, but it does tend to make me a bit drowsy. Since you only need to take one of these pills every 24 hours, I take mine near bedtime when any drowsy effect works to my advantage DavidO posted the same suggestion. Why not ask a Pharmacist rather than cruise travelers? The Pharmacist is more qualified to answer your question than anyone. You could do even better by asking a cruise ship physician.
Some of the cruise lines even give out free Boninie at the Guest Relations desk and most lines do stock it in one of the onboard shops. There is a good reason why cruise ship docs do not generally recommend this drug : Some of the tales you would hear from the physicians would have you shaking your head.
